Maypole

On Thursday May 1, the fourth grade classes from Central Elementary traveled to Lancing to perform the Maypole dance during the Mayday celebration. The Maypole Dance was a tradition when the old Lancing School was still in operation. The fourth grade classes will also be performing the dance again at CES on May 23, 2008. All family and friends are invited to attend.

GFWC Womens Group

On March 24 the General Federation of Women's Club came by to present Central Elementary with a check for $3000 to purchase outside items for the school. This club prides itself in doing charity work in their communities and raised the money through cookbook sales. The cookbooks can be purchased for twenty-five dollars by contacting Jean Cardwell at 865-603-9630. Central Elementary appreciates the generous donation from this great group of ladies!

Bob Becker

During the week of February 25 - 29 Central Elementary students observed National Severe Weather Week and learned about different weather conditions. Fifth grade students got a treat, as local television weather personality Bob Becker, from channel 6, came to talk with them about severe weather.

Book

In January student teacher Marla Hines presented Mrs. Anna with a book she had written about one of her classes. March 3 is Read Across America Day. Take the time to read with your children each day and encourage them to read on their own. A child who can read proficiently can accomplish all things!

Drug Dog

In January the 2nd grade classes got a treat when Morgan County Sheriff's Office Deputy Esau Hamby came by to talk with and show the students the department's drug dog.

Christmas

On December 19, Central Elementary hosted the Pre-K through 3rd grade Christmas program. The students did a wonderful job and we enjoyed lots of family members coming out to support the event!

Square Dance

During November the 5th grade classes at Central Elementary had their annual square dance. The classes did a wonderful job!

Red RibbonRed Ribbon

Red RibbonRed Ribbon

In the last week of October Central Elementary celebrated Red Ribbon Week. During this week students were encouraged to say no to drugs. Each day the students wore different colors to represent the slogan that went along with that day. Morgan County Sheriff Dennis Ledbetter also came by to talk about the dangers of drugs. Thanks to all who participated.

Johnny Appleseed

1st Grade students enjoy making apple cider to help celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day!

grandparents

On September 9, students in first grade classes celebrated Grandparent's Day. CES thinks Grandparents are very special people!
